WATCH: Philadelphia Phillies Outfielder Makes Impossibly Lucky Catch After Losing the Ball in the Sun
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh made one of the wildest catches you’ll ever see on a baseball field despite being blinded by the sun.
In the seventh inning of the Phillies’ game against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco hit a fly ball to center field. When it was clear the ball didn’t have enough distance to go over the wall, it looked like it would be a routine out for Marsh.
Suddenly, Marsh held up both hands to indicate that he had lost the ball in the sun. As he put his hands up, the ball somehow dropped directly into his glove for the out.
When he realized what happened, he put his hands on his knees in a moment of both relief and disbelief.
“He made the catch!” NBC Sports announcer Tom McCarthy said. “He couldn’t see it the entire time! He stuck his glove out and it landed there! That is unbelievable! He went to the right neighborhood, and at the last moment, reached out with his glove about three feet from his body; and he made the catch. That’s remarkable… Look at that face. He is stunned like everybody else.”
“That is amazing,” analyst Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “You talk about the ball catching you!”
