Fox’s Lawrence Jones Calls Out Obamas’ DNC Message of ‘Hope’ as Hollow Branding: ‘You Can’t Dip BS in Gold’
Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones tore into the speeches made by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention, arguing the pair tried selling “BS dipped in gold.”
O’Donnell argued on Wednesday that the Democratic Party seemed to “have way more respect” for the Obamas than President Joe Biden. He also criticized the Obamas for selling a message of hope and compared it with Donald Trump’s campaign. Michelle Obama said at one point she had become increasingly hopeless about the state of the country but now sees a “comeback” through Vice President Kamala Harris.
Jones argued inflation woes are the real reason voters feel hopeless.
He said:
I think there is something to that hopelessness, but the American people aren’t hopeless because of Donald Trump. I think that’s where they’re missing the mark. No matter how inspirational they are, no matter how good the cadence is on the stage, you can’t dip BS in gold and expect the American people to buy it. Donald Trump hasn’t been in charge the last four years, you think people are hopeless because of him? Maybe it’s because when they go to the grocery store, the prices are out of control, maybe it’s because they thought their kids would have access to the American dream, but unfortunately they’re not able buy a house and they now have to take care of their kids.
Jones denied Trump playing any significant role in selling “hopelessness” to voters.
“There is a ton of hopelessness in America,” he said. “It has very little to do with Donald Trump.”
The Obamas both took digs at Trump in their addresses. Michelle Obama accused the former president of “failing upward,” while Barack Obama accused him of being more interested in personal “gripes and grievances” than the future of the country.
