Biden Belongs On ‘Democratic Mount Rushmore’ Fawns Swalwell on MSNBC: Our Kids Will ‘Power Their Devices With The Chips He Manufactured’

Democrat and frequent MSNBC guest Rep. Eric Swalwell on Saturday lavished praise on former party nominee President Joe Biden for his time in office, which Swalwell characterized a Rushmore-ready legacy.

Swalwell joined the panel on MSNBC’s The Weekend Saturday, hosted by former RNC chair Michael Steele.

Steele asked Swalwell to offer commentary on the administration’s “doggedness” in the face of “obstruction,” which perseverance the host said delivered “something that’s meaningful” to voters. “That’s huge. Talk a little bit about that legacy and what this means in the moment,” he prompted.

“When we fight for people, we win,” Swalwell replied. “And so the legacy that this president is going to leave is that our kids will drive on roads that he built. They’ll power their devices with chips that he manufactured. And they will feed their families with jobs he created.”

Former Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi was the subject of media attention recently for her statement in an interview that Biden’s legacy is worthy of his face being added to Mount Rushmore. Swalwell’s Rushmore moment was somewhat more metaphorical.

“Joe Biden, I believe, will go on the Democratic Mount Rushmore with FDR, with President Kennedy, with President Truman, and with LBJ,” he said to Steele. “And he will certainly be remembered for the 16 million jobs he’s created.”

He then added that Biden will also be remembered for passing the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris, whose own economic views in fact were widely savaged on Friday and Saturday including by liberal outlets such as The Washington Post.

STEELE: What does this say about this administration’s doggedness in the face of the kind of obstruction you’ve had to deal with the impeachments, the trials, all the stuff that we’ve seen play out, and the, the, the obstruction of efforts that this president is able to deliver to voters, citizens writ large, something that’s meaningful for them? You’re taking a one of the drugs. $7,000 a month is now $2,000 for them. That’s huge. Talk a little bit about that legacy and what this means in the moment.

SWALWELL: When we fight for people, we win. And you’re seeing that on Medicare. You’re seeing that on the Inflation Reduction Act for the first time, a three month period, Inflation is not 3%, 2%. It’s zero. And so the legacy that this president is going to leave is that our kids will drive on roads that he built. They’ll power their devices with chips that he manufactured. And they will feed their families with jobs he created.

And Joe Biden, I believe, will go on the Democratic Mount Rushmore with FDR, with President Kennedy, with President Truman, and with LBJ. And he will certainly be remembered for the 16 million jobs he’s created. But he’s also put himself in a position now to be remembered for the one job that he left. And it’s a job that he’s left for Kamala Harris to finish, as she picks up that torch and runs with it.
