Private messages reveal former President Donald Trump’s running mate Senator JD Vance (R-OH) seeking consultation on UFOs and the death of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein from Holocaust denying conspiracy theorist Chuck Johnson.
The texts, sent via encrypted messaging service Signal and leaked by Johnson to the Washington Post, reveal a candid correspondence that lasted 20 months, beginning after Vance’s election to the Senate in 2022.
Johnson reached out first to congratulate Vance on his election win in messages that developed into an exchange where Vance would ask for Johnson’s take on a wide-range of topics including UFOs, whether Epstein “actually killed himself” and Republican relations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In another instance Vance expressed disdain for Ukraine’s pleas for military assistance during the ongoing Russian invasion, telling Johnson: “Dude I won’t even take calls from Ukraine. Two very senior guys reached out to me. The head of their intel. The head of the Air Force. Bitching about F16s.”
Vance also made offhand remarks about prominent figures in the GOP’s donor class. In one instance, Vance crudely dismissed the late Sheldon Adelson, a significant Republican donor.
He told Johnson: “I’m pretty sure he gave me shit. He’s dead. Don’t care.”
Johnson told the Washington Post that he had grown disillusioned with Vance since Trump selected him as running mate.
When asked by the newspaper about the messages, Vance spokesperson William Martin downplayed the relationship: “Chuck Johnson spam texted JD Vance. JD usually ignored him, but occasionally responded to push back against things he said.”
