David Axelrod, the prominent Obama-era Democratic strategist, marveled Tuesday at both Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) praising Gov. Tim Walz (D) as Kamala Harris’s choice for VP.
Axelrod commented on NBC News political reporter Sahil Kapur sharing both the statements online and noting, “AOC and Manchin out with enthusiastic praise of Tim Walz as VP pick.”
“This is a telling and unusual pairing,” Axelrod wrote, highlighting the fact that the two lawmakers have historically personified different sides of the party and very different constituencies.
“Vice President Harris made an excellent decision in Gov. Walz as her running mate. Together, they will govern effectively, inclusively, and boldly for the American people. They won’t back down under tight odds, either – from healthcare to school lunch. Let’s do this,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez on X.
Sen. Manchin’s statement read, “My friend Governor Tim Walz will bring normality back to the most chaotic political environment that most of us have ever seen.”
“All of the candidates were strong and any one of them would have been a great pick, but I can think of no one better than Governor Walz to help bring our country closer together and bring balance back to the Democratic Party. Governor Walz is the real deal. I look forward to continuing to work with him to bring normalcy back to Washington,” he added.
