‘Imagine the Internal Polling’: Social Media Laughs at Trump for Sucking Up to Georgia’s Brian Kemp Weeks After Vicious Attacks

Observers were amused by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s sudden expressed affinity for Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) on Thursday, with some speculating that Trump must be quite insecure about his place in the presidential race.
While the Democratic National Convention commanded the political world’s attention Thursday night, Trump interrupted it by extending an olive branch to Kemp.
“Thank you to @BrianKempGAfor all of your help and support in Georgia, where a win is so important to the success of our Party and, most importantly, our Country,” wrote Trump on X and Truth Social. “I look forward to working with you, your team, and all of my friends in Georgia to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump embarked on a years-long crusade against Kemp after the governor refused to help Trump try to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the Peach State. The former President even backed an ill-fated primary challenge by former Senator David Perdue to Kemp in 2022, which ended with the incumbent easily triumphing.
In just the last few weeks, Trump has taken shots at both Kemp and his wife, falsely accusing the couple of helping spur on Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis’s criminal case against Trump and calling the governor “the most disloyal guy I think I’ve ever seen.”
So naturally, his reversal on Thursday raised eyebrows.
“Imagine the internal polling that leads to Trump going hat-in-hand to Brian Kemp on every social media app,” mused Commentary Magazine senior editor Seth Mandel.

“Sometimes it takes awhile, sometimes they fight it, but eventually, they all bend the knee to Brian Kemp,” observed National Review contributing editor Daniel Foster.

The satirical Three Year Letterman account chimed in by declaring that he knows “a ghost written tweet when I see one,” and another popular conservative account replied to him by submitting that “he lack of capslock and typos suggests the FBI needs to look into this.”

“I guess [Trump campaign manager] Susie Wiles knows Trump’s Twitter password,” remarked National Review senior writer Charles C.W. Cooke.

The presidential race in Georgia has tightened up in recent days. While Trump boasted a nearly 6-point lead over President Joe Biden on the day that Biden decided to drop out, he now leads Kamala Harris by just 0.6%, according to 538.
