CNN’s Ana Navarro UNLOADS on ‘Cruel’ and ‘Disgusting’ Republicans Who Mocked Tim Walz’s Son
CNN commentator Ana Navarro went off on critics of Gus Walz, the son of vice presidential nominee Tim Walz who delivered a fiery speech to the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.
During a touching moment of the speech, the Minnesota governor acknowledged his wife Gwen, and his two kids, Gus and Hope. Both appeared emotional, with Gus standing up and pointing to his father.
“That’s my dad!” the teenager could be seen saying.
Gus has been diagnosed with nonverbal learning disorder, as well as ADHD and anxiety. Regardless, his reaction was one that almost any teenager in his position could have had in that moment.
A handful of conservatives mocked or otherwise criticized Walz’s son. Ann Coulter called him “weird.”
Navarro addressed the reactions in an angry tweet on Thursday morning. On Thursday afternoon, she went on CNN and let loose.
“Just before coming here, I was at brunch with Gwen Walz, the wife of Tim Walz, the vice presidential nominee,” she said. “And you could see the emotion she has of the attacks that are going on against her teen son, who’s got special needs. There are many Republicans, many Trump Republicans out on social media taking horrible attacks on a kid who had a beautiful moment of authentic pride and love for his father yesterday and got emotional.”
She went on to put the GOP on blast over its emphasis on “family values.”
“And the Republican Party cannot call itself the party of family values and the party of Christian values if they think it’s ok to such viciously attack a 17-year-old kid with special needs. That is cruel. It is inhumane. It is disgusting. It is un-American. And it is unacceptable.”
