Less than 24 hours after former President Donald Trump revealed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is on his VP shortlist, a top advisor to the Trump campaign trashed the Florida governor as a “sad little man.”

In a post to X (formerly known as Twitter), chief Trump campaign strategist Chris LaCivita sounded off on DeSantis.

“Chicken fingers and pudding cups is what you will be remembered for, you sad little man,” LaCivita wrote.

LaCivita was responding to a New York Post report which revealed DeSantis told his would-be RNC delegates that he would not take the no. 2 spot on the ticket.

“I am not doing that,” DeSantis reportedly said.

On Tuesday night at a town hall in South Carolina, Fox News host Laura Ingraham got Trump to say that DeSantis is under consideration for VP.

“The audience has been asked who they think would be a good choice, and various names came up,” Ingraham said. “One of them was, of course, Vivek Ramaswamy; he’s made a big splash. Ron DeSantis, who’s making an appearance today in South Carolina, we just found out. Obviously, Tim Scott, Byron Donalds, and a big presence here for Tulsi Gabbard. Are they all on your shortlist?”

“They are,” Trump said.

During the GOP primary campaign, Trump — who dismissively dubbed his rival “DeSanctimonious” — went after the Florida governor relentlessly. But in the final days before DeSantis pulled out of the race, Trump began to soften his criticism before ultimately saluting him after he bowed out.

DeSantis gave a lukewarm endorsement of Trump on the day he quit the race but has taken several shots at him since.
