Ex-RNC Official Defends CNN Host on Fox News: ‘She Should Be Commended’

Former Republican National Committee official Doug Heye defended CNN’s Kasie Hunt while appearing on Monday’s Special Report on Fox News.

CNN will host the first presidential debate this cycle between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, the debate will be simulcast on multiple networks, including Fox News.

On Monday, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt joined CNN This Morning, where she repeatedly attacked Tapper and Bash, saying they “have made their opinions about [Trump] very well known.”

Host Kasie Hunt responded by ending the trainwreck interview after warning Leavitt not to attack her colleagues.

Fox News host Bret Baier aired a clip of the segment during his show’s panel segment.

“It would take someone five minutes to Google ‘Jake Tapper, Donald Trump’ to see that Jake Tapper has consistently–” Leavitt said before Hunt interrupted.

“Ma’am, we’re gonna stop this interview if you’re gonna keep attacking my colleagues,” Hunt said before cutting bait.

“It’s odd to me that maybe this anchor was not entirely prepared for that to go down the way that it did,” said Fox News correspondent Gillian Turner. “These are standard Trump campaign talking points. It’s not as if she proposed something that blew everybody’s minds that we hadn’t heard of before.”

Heye, an occasional guest on CNN, stepped in to defend the host.

“I talked to Kasie Hunt earlier today,” he said. “She’s a good friend. And I know that if I came on this show and gave out all the things that I find objectionable about Shannon Bream – there is zero by the way – you wouldn’t put up with that.”

“Evil Shannon Bream?” Baier joked.

“Exactly,” Heye responded. “You wouldn’t put up with that. And I think Kasie was very right to defend her colleagues. That’s what you do. She did her job. I think she should be commended for it… You’re gonna have a tough time on your hands when you get campaign surrogates on your show. That happens everywhere. But you’re gonna stand up for your colleague. That’s normal.”

“Yeah,” Baier replied. “She could’ve moved on and come back to a different topic. But I get it.”
