Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reportedly sought a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris last week to discuss the possibility of endorsing her in return for a position in her administration.
Citing unnamed Kennedy campaign officials, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Kennedy had sought a meeting with Harris “to discuss the possibility of serving in her administration, perhaps as a Cabinet secretary, if he throws his support behind her campaign and she wins.”
The Washington Post added that the Harris campaign has not yet responded to Kennedy “or shown interest in the proposal.”
Just last month, Kennedy met with former President Donald Trump to discuss a potential role in his administration should he win the 2024 election.
A Kennedy campaign insider told Mediaite at the time that the two men had a “lengthy conversation,” which included “discussion over Bobby playing a future role in the administration and what that role might be.”
However, Trump was unable to convince Kennedy to drop out of the race and endorse him.
“Trump was trying to get an endorsement from Kennedy,” a source told Mediaite senior media reporter Diana Falzone. “Kennedy was not going to endorse Trump, but agreed to drafting a Unity Government Pledge requested by the Trump team.”
The source claimed that while Trump wanted “desperately to make people think Kennedy was in support of him,” their conversations soon “halted,” and the Trump campaign never responded to Kennedy’s draft.
On Wednesday, a Pew Research poll placed support for Kennedy at 7%, with Harris and Trump polling neck and neck at 46 and 45% respectively.
