Dem Activists Mount Another Protest Vote in Primary, Tell MSNBC Biden is ‘Alienating’ His Base Over Israel

Activists in Wisconsin are trying to send a clear message to President Joe Biden with yet another protest primary vote campaign, this time in Wisconsin.

Organizers involved in the campaign told NBC’s Maya Eagland that they’re hoping to get 20,000 people to vote “uninstructed” in the state’s Democratic primary. “Uninstructed” equates to an uncommitted vote. Activists have pushed similar campaigns in other states, including Michigan where more than 100,000 voters supported the uncommitted movement in protest of Biden’s support of Israel in their Gaza strikes.

Biden won Wisconsin in 2020, but only by approximately 20,000 votes.

Halah Ahmed, a spokesperson for Listen to Wisconsin, said the Democratic Party has lost “all legitimacy” for those who support a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Thousands of civilians have been killed in the strikes on Gaza, including multiple aid workers this week.

“I think the Democratic Party has lost all legitimacy in our communities,” Ahmed said.

She added later she fears there will be nothing left of Gaza by November if the strikes continue.

“If in November, we still don’t have a ceasefire, I don’t know what will be left in Gaza and that’s our focus in this campaign,” the activist said.

Dahlia Saba is also behind the protest vote movement in Wisconsin, and she told NBC that the campaign is meant to send a message, acknowledging that Biden will be the party’s nominee.

“Joe Biden has already won the Democratic nomination, so the uninstructed campaign is really a way of sending a message. It is not about him actually becoming president or not,” she said. “It is a way for us to quantify, this is how many people care about this issue, we are Democrats, we are voting in the Democratic primary. These are your constituents and your policy is alienating them.”
