Trump Asks If ‘Unusually Beautiful’ Taylor Swift Is ‘Legitimately Liberal’ or Just Putting on an ‘Act’

Donald Trump questioned whether musician Taylor Swift is “legitimately liberal” or just putting on an “act,” telling Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh he’s “surprised” anyone could be a successful country artist and liberal.

Variety published an excerpt from the book Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass by Setoodeh on Monday, which included the former president’s thoughts on the “unusually beautiful” Swift.

“I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented,” Trump told Setoodah when asked about Swift and her success. “I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!”

Swift has become more politically active in recent years, endorsing President Joe Biden in the 2020 election and accusing Trump of “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” during his time in the White House.

Trump questioned in the forthcoming book whether Swift’s liberal politics was just an “act,” saying it’s surprising to him that someone could top country music charts and be liberal.

“She is liberal, or is that just an act?” he asked. “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.”

Setoodeh noted that much of Swift’s music is pop, but Trump responded by simply asking how another musician could be liberal.

“Garth Brooks is liberal. Explain that!” Trump said. “How does it happen?”

Trump targeted Swift over her Biden support in a February Truth Social post.

“I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists,” he wrote. “Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money. Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis [Kelce], even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!”
