CNN’s John Berman Shuts Down Trump Ally’s Attack On Kamala Harris VP Pick With One Question
CNN anchor John Berman shut down Trump ally Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) with a single question when Burgum attacked Vice President Kamala Harris over her running mate selection.
After wall-to-wall veepstakes speculation, the wait was finally over Tuesday morning as news broke that Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) would be the VP nominee. But even before the announcement, Republicans were priming an attack that any failure to select Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) would be because he is Jewish.
On Wednesday’s edition of CNN News Central, Berman parried several of Burgum’s talking points, including that Harris didn’t pick Shapiro because she “bowed to the Hamas wing of the Democrat Party”:
GOV. DOUG BURGUM: Minnesota is the California of the Midwest. Not just not a sound bite, when you look at the energy policies of that state.
They’re on the same track adopting California, EV standards, trying to eliminate internal combustion cars. Passing laws that Tim has signed, that that basically say we’re going to rid of baseload electricity if it doesn’t come from, these intermittent, sources of wind and solar.
And so it is, they’re on a path there where they’re driving energy costs up, which is a huge tax on on working class people and affordability.
At the end of the day, this election is going to be between Trump and Harris. 90 days from now is when the election is coming. The honeymoon period of just talking and fighting over the bios, is going to go away.
And this election is going to be about inflation, the border, our wars overseas. And those are the issues where Trump is strong and Harris is weak.
JOHN BERMAN: Did you know that that, when he was in Congress, Tim Walz voted for the Keystone pipeline?
GOV. DOUG BURGUM: Yes. But he certainly has changed as governor. I mean, he’s he’s he’s signed into law and supported every liberal progressive policy, that Minnesota’s had the last four years.
And and I think it’s part of the reason why, you know, Bernie Sanders liked him. And it’s part of the reason why Harris picked him, because, you know, her California policies and the Minnesota policies are very, very much aligned as and as you were just commenting, you’re commenting with.
I mean, part of the reason why we’ve got, Tim Walz as a VP pick is because the, Harris in her first choice as a, as a presidential candidate, basically was, you know, bowed to the Hamas wing of the Democrat Party and said, “We can’t have someone who supports Israel on the ticket.”
JOHN BERMAN: Governor, are you Jewish?
GOV. DOUG BURGUM: Me? No I’m not.
JOHN BERMAN: Okay, I’m asking that because you weren’t picked to be Donald Trump’s running mate. So there are other reasons besides religion not to be chosen as a running mate, correct?
GOV. DOUG BURGUM: Well, yeah. And I mean, yeah, because Shapiro also had spoken out that he was a pro school choice. And of course, that doesn’t fly with the teachers unions.
And so, you know, I can understand why, like, maybe Shapiro is popular in Pennsylvania because he’s adopted some what would be considered Republican policies.
