James Carville Roasts Trump for ‘Fantasizing Publicly’ About Nancy Pelosi, Taylor Swift

Democratic strategist James Carville told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo he was genuinely shocked to hear Donald Trump “fantasizing publicly” about Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and musician Taylor Swift.

In a Thursday appearance, Carville reacted to Trump’s recent comments about both Pelosi and Swift, as well as his mocking the city of Milwaukee where the Republican National Convention is being held in August.

“Chris, I’m going to be almost 80. I’ve been to 50 different countries, I’ve been to goat-ropings, Mazola parties, and God knows whatnot, and I’ve never seen anything like today,” Carville told Cuomo. “You got a candidate for president of the United States fantasizing publicly about Nancy Pelosi and Taylor Swift, and then he calls the host city a horrible place.”

The former president received immediate backlash after reports indicated he referred to Milwaukee as a “horrible city” during a closed-door meeting with Republican lawmakers this week. Trump later appeared to admit to criticizing the city, noting he’s concerned with “crime” there.

“It was very clear what I meant. I said, we’re very concerned with crime. I love Milwaukee, I have great friends in Milwaukee, but it’s as you know, the crime numbers are terrible,” he said.

During the meeting, Trump also reportedly made an odd comment about dating Pelosi.

“Nancy Pelosi’s daughter is a whacko; her daughter told me if things were different, Nancy and I would be perfect together; there’s an age difference, though,” he said, as reported by Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman.

Trump is 78, and Pelosi is 84.

Trump also made comments about Swift during the meeting, which follows other public comments about the musician where he referred to her as “unusually beautiful” and questioned whether her being liberal is an “act.” Swift endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.

On Thursday, Cuomo asked if Republicans are winning on “messaging” as they have a candidate they stick by no matter what he says.

“The Flat Earth people have a simple message. It’s just wrong. We’ve got a ways to go in this campaign and I think the hope is that as this recovery continues, which it shows every sign of doing, that attitudes will be better. When people are reminded of the disaster that the Trump administration was,” Carville said, calling the response to the Covid pandemic “unbelievably horrible” especially for the national debt.

Carville has raised alarms about Biden’s low polling and the “full of shit” messaging by Democrats, but he noted on Thursday that Democrats are continuing to win elections and he expects numbers to improve as the election draws closer.

“There’s one America that people are talking about, there’s another America people are living in and the America people are living in has dropping inflation and dropping crime, by a lot,” he said.
