Gutfeld! Posts Its Highest-Rated Broadcast Ever — With Bill Maher As Guest

Bill Maher on Gutfeld

Fox News dominated late-night ratings this week as Gutfeld! beat out The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live. On Monday, the show saw its highest ratings ever with Bill Maher in his first-ever appearance on the program.

According to a press release from Fox News, it was the show’s highest-rated episode since it began, “averaging 2.9 million viewers and 342,000 in A25-54.” Fox added that “host Greg Gutfeld outpaced broadcast and cable programs in the younger A18-49 demographic.”

The right-leaning talk show welcomed self-professed “old-school liberal” Maher on Monday night, there as part of his book tour. It was a rare case of Gutfeld hosting a critic of President Donald Trump on his late-night show — and the ideological diversity was perhaps key to its ratings success. Maher made sure to get in a few jabs at Gutfeld over Trump’s refusal to concede that he lost the 2020 election, and also recalled to Gutfeld that Trump sued him in 2013 for saying his mother had sex with an orangutan. Trump eventually dropped the suit.

Gutfeld and Maher have crossed paths before. Gutfeld appeared on Maher’s Club Random in 2023, where the two shared a joint and talked about their comedy careers. Maher also congratulated Gutfeld on the success of his show, saying: “I always say to people, you know, you may not love somebody’s success, but you have to respect success, you know?”
