President Joe Biden told Howard Stern on Friday that he’s more than ready to debate his likely November opponent, Donald Trump.
During a lengthy interview, Stern said he wasn’t sure if Biden planned on debating Trump, and Biden quickly jumped in to confirm that he is.
“I am, somewhere. I don’t know when. I’m happy to debate him,” the president said.
Stern recommended Biden repeat “find me 11,000 votes” over and over again on a debate stage, referring to the former president’s infamous phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which he said he needed him to “find” 11,000 votes to flip the state. Trump had denied there was anything wrong with the call.
Trump and more than multiple allies have been indicted in Georgia on election racketeering charges.
Biden claimed seven Republican senators, none of whom he said he would name, have privately called him to say they “agree” with him about what a danger Trump is, but they claim they can’t say so publicly.
The president blasted Trump referring to Jan. 6 rioters as “patriots” and described his actions during the Capitol riot as “almost criminal.” He also echoed a past point about segregationist lawmakers being easier to deal with than Republicans today.
“They understood there’s a need for a consensus to run this country,” Biden said.
Biden opened up on a number of personal and political topics during the Stern conversation. He also claimed “some” in the media are “worried about attacking” and “taking on” Trump.
“The free press is not speaking up as much as it used to,” he said.
