A bombshell report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution revealed that members of Georgia’s football team committed 24 different driving offenses since January 2023.
This week, two more players were arrested for reckless driving. That was in addition to two previously reported arrests in this offseason alone.
According to AJC’s Friday report, however, police records indicate the actual number of offenses committed by the team is much higher.
Since January 2023 — when a player and staffer were killed while racing after the team’s national championship parade — members of the team have committed an additional 23 offenses. That includes three different incidents occurring within six weeks of that fatal crash.
One of those incidents included then-sophomore receiver De’Nylon Morrisette, who reportedly got pulled over for driving 81 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. Less than three months later on May 2, he was stopped for going 91 in a 55 mph zone; and a week after that, he was arrested for a DUI after hitting another car.
Morrisette wasn’t the only one who was stopped more than once. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, a junior receiver in the 2023 offseason, was stopped three times on May 15, May 15, and May 23 for speeding. For the last incident — in which he was traveling 90 in a 45 mph zone — he was jailed for reckless driving.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart is expected to address these issues during SEC Media Days on Tuesday.
