The head coach of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas football team took boosting into his own hands when he decided to ride a bull to raise money for the program.
On Saturday, the football program held an event titled “Horns & Helmets.” It featured more than two dozen professional bull riders competing in a tournament. Fans also got the chance to meet Hall-of-Fame rider Tuff Hedeman.
Arguably the most fascinating aspect of the night, however, was at intermission of the tournament. There, UNLV coach Barry Odom tried his hand at bull riding all in the name of supporting his team.
It went about as expected. Odom lasted all of two seconds before the bull viciously bucked him off. As Odom lost his grip and fell off, the bull’s head struck his torso and knocked him back to make the fall even more brutal. Odom rose to his feet quickly as he gingerly walked off and high-fived nearby staff.

CBS reporter Chris Maathuis, who posted the video online, later confirmed the coach was OK following the fall. Putting into perspective how difficult the sport is, Maathuis also claimed the bull was only considered to be a “practice bull.”

Tickets for the event went for $150 with proceeds going to the Rebel Football foundation. It’s unknown how many tickets were sold, but Odom’s daring exploits are sure to endear himself to the UNLV faithful.
