‘That is Genuine’: Fox News Host Pushes Back on Claims Trump is a Threat to Democracy With Video of Him Buying People Milkshakes
Fox News’ Emily Compagno tried to disprove that Donald Trump was a threat to democracy by recounting how he bought chicken and milkshakes for happy customers at an Atlanta Chick-fil-A.
After playing several clips of Democrats claiming that Trump “unravels core democratic institutions,” Compagno responded, “Does he really?” before continuing.
“The former president has been busy on the campaign trail, and yesterday’s visit to an Atlanta Chick-fil-A has gone viral online,” Compagno said. “Trump treated customers to chicken and milkshakes, appealing to voters with a campaign strategy, and, some argued, a personality trait of meeting people, of meeting voters where they are.”
Fox News then played video of Trump cavorting with the restaurant’s workers and customers.
“That is genuine,” Compagno said of the delighted reactions to Trump. “Here, we see Donald Trump is the one who is actually meeting people where they are.”
Fox News contributor Marie Harf then rained on the Outnumbered co-hosts’ parade.
“I do believe that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy,” Harf said. “I was in Washington when my colleagues were on Capitol Hill on January 6th, and he tried to overturn a democratic election. I have heard him pledge retribution to his political opponents.
“I have heard him say the things he wants to do,” she continued. “I try not to be hyperbolic about things, but I see what Donald Trump has done and has said, and I genuinely believe that he is a threat to the democratic underpinning of our country. And I don’t say that lightly, Emily, I really don’t.”
The co-hosts then asked if Trump’s promise to enforce the southern border, or to restore law and order in U.S. cities, were threats to democracy.
Harris Faulkner jumped in, saying, “Just real quickly. Donald Trump has never been charged with anything that happened on January 6th, let alone convicted of it.”
“He’s been charged with trying to overturn the election in Georgia. He is charged for there,” Harf answered.
“But that’s not what you said,” Faulkner retorted. “What you said, you equated it when your friends were trapped inside the Capitol. And I want to make it very, very clear that those are not the charges against the former president nor has there ever been a conviction.”
“He encouraged his supporters to do it,” Harf maintained. “We all saw it with our own eyes.”
“You’ll have to prove that,” Faulkner said.
