WATCH: Trump Gets Booed Out of the Building in Stunning Speech to Libertarian National Convention

Former President Donald Trump was loudly booed at the Libertarian National Convention Saturday night as he asked for their votes, saying Libertarians and Republicans had to work together to defeat Joe Biden.

CNN’s Manu Raju played a montage of Trump’s speech as the crowd jeered:

I will be a true friend to Libertarians in the White House…We want Libertarian votes because you stand for what we stand for, and don’t waste a vote…I think you should vote for me or at least nominate me, and we should win together.

“Trump did not seem irked by all this,” Raju said on Sunday’s Inside Politics. “How bad was that reception?” he asked Semafor’s David Weigel.

“This is the biggest news event that has happened to Libertarians in some time,” Weigel said. “The chair of the party who invited Trump was celebrating. She said they moved the Overton Window of debate, and they moved Trump on their issues, which was the goal.” Weigel continued:

Part of their goal — and I talked to delegates all weekend at the party — was, “Show up and boo and demand things from Trump. Don’t make it look like he can just show up to a Libertarian convention and win people over.” So, the big news from this is he said he would put a Libertarian in the cabinet, he said he’d give clemency to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, this online — Dark Web, I should say — drug kingpin.

And, Trump went in knowing he had to make some promises, and knowing he’d get booed. The Trump campaign was telling me this was party of the unity tour, like Sneaker Con, like the Bronx rally, where he’s going to show up, maybe get some bad imagery, and he’s going to have to say some things that Joe Biden’s not saying. But, incrementally, over time, that’s going to maybe add some votes.

Former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who is said to be on Trump’s running mate short list, also got booed when he spoke at the convention on Friday and mentioned the former president’s name.
