Dan Crenshaw Stuns Real Time With Claim ‘There WAS a Peaceful Transition of Power’ From Trump — CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Calls BS
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) stunned the audience and everyone onstage by claiming “there was a peaceful transfer of power” from former President Donald Trump — and CNN’s Kaitlan Collins repeatedly called BS on Crenshaw’s claims.
On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Collins was Maher’s interview guest, while her fellow panelists were longtime Democratic strategist James Carville and GOP Congressman Dan Crenshaw (R-TX).
All of them appeared on the aftershow “Overtime” segment, which got feisty when Crenshaw tried to equate the January 6 riot with things that Democrats have done in the past — and Collins battled him every step of the way:
BILL MAHER: But wouldn’t you concede that not conceding elections is a much bigger, more existential issue and that he’s not going to concede this election? Can you imagine? Can you tell me a scenario where he loses, maybe even by more, and he concedes the election? Can you imagine him saying, I’ve seen the results and I’d like to congratulate Kamala Harris and running a good campaign. It’s impossible to imagine!
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: I don’t have to imagine that. So I don’t have to imagine any of that, because I know the history of it and the history of it. As he moved out of the white House, it was a peaceful transition of power, and there was an inauguration on January 21st.
(LAUGHS AND JEERS).
So–
BILL MAHER: He tried everything not to do that!
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: Yeah, they tried to do the same unconstitutional process–.
BILL MAHER: NO!
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: That Democrats did when he lost the elections and.
BILL MAHER: The Democrats sent fake electors, the Democrats pressured the Justice Department. The Democrats went to court and got laughed out of it? No,
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: Talking about that.
BILL MAHER: That never happened in any other.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: Talking about using utilizing the legal process. Now, I disagree with the fact that there shouldn’t even be a process to to decertify an election. But Democrats did it three times in the elections prior to that. Where was the handwringing then? Stacey Abrams never.
BILL MAHER: Because it didn’t happen.
…
JAMES CARVILLE: But what happened was they assaulted the Capitol at the encouragement of him. They are celebrating. Yes, on 5th September of 2024. Right. And if a Democrat did something like that, I would go Dutch. I’d Warner. I’d want to haul off and slug em.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: And I wouldn’t do it. I did go nuts. Like I hate it.
JAMES CARVILLE: That’s what they doing. They are honoring. They’re honoring these criminals. And I wouldn’t, you know, in a Democrat in Minneapolis. I’m not bothered at all. And by the way, you know, look what happened.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: And so you got to go. You got to admit, though, that people– go ahead
JAMES CARVILLE: Again, these were people that assaulted the Capitol. They were trying to hang.
KAITLAN COLLINS: But also–. To, to act like what Democrats have done before, which is often something that Republicans, when we have them on my show, say when we talk about January 6th and the fake electors and Trump refusing to admit that he lost the election, there was barely a peaceful transfer of power.
They actually wouldn’t even allow them to move forward with getting federal funding to start the transition. For weeks, I remember it was because we found out about a little known position that no one in the federal government even really know much about because of that.
But also the difference in is Joe Biden went and certified the election. He was the vice president then, and he certified Donald Trump’s election and did not. There was not a massive–.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: So did Mike Pence.
KAITLAN COLLINS: Yeah because Mike Pence was pressured not to by Donald Trump.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: The entire process of certification is bullshit. It’s unconstitutional. Democrats open this door. Republicans ran through it to Congress.
KAITLAN COLLINS: Democrats did not open the door.
Yes. They did three elections in a row.
KAITLAN COLLINS: You cannot compare.
REP. DAN CRENSHAW: Again because they’re going through a legal, what they deem to be a legal process. I think it’s illegal no matter which party does it.
