NBCNews.com has bested the New York Times in monthly unique visitors for three months straight, a milestone for NBC in the ever-competitive digital traffic race.
The digital news organization ended the third quarter of 2023 with an average of 89 million unique visitors, according to data from Comscore shared with Mediaite by NBC.
In September, NBC drew 91 million uniques, while the Times drew 76 million uniques. CNN continued its spree at the top of the traffic charts, with 121 million uniques.
NBCU News Group touted the might of its full operation on the release, noting it “ranks as the #1 digital news organization in the U.S.” when taken as a whole. The company’s multiple digital properties, which also include MSNBC.com and CNBC.com, drew a total of 138 million unique visitors in the third quarter.
NBC has hired some big names in recent years. In January 2023, it poached Rebecca Blumenstein, who now serves as NBC News president of editorial, from the Times. Tom Namako, who serves as senior executive editor of digital, joined NBC News in 2022.
Fox News said in its own statement that its digital properties, which include FoxNews.com and FoxBusiness.com, drew 89 million uniques in the month of September and averaged 88 million across the third quarter.
