Trey Yingst Tells Fox & Friends Hamas Officials Have Been Flat Out Lying to Him: ‘It’s Very Challenging to Get Them to Tell the Truth’
Trey Yingst has been a tireless and reliable source of journalism reporting on the Israel-Hamas War. During a Tuesday morning report on Fox & Friends, he explained the challenges of how he reports on information he receives from Hamas officials, providing insight on the challenges of parsing information in the fog of war, especially that which comes from known terrorist organizations.
Among the many subplots to this current conflict, which started with the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians, which took roughly 1,200 lives, is the ongoing information war on both sides.
Hospital explosions and civilian death counts reported by Hamas from within Gaza, where so few international journalists have been allowed access, have created a partisan cudgel used to attack either pro-Israel or pro-Palestianian sides of the current foreign policy debate.
During Tuesday’s segment with Yingst, Fox & Friends host Lawrence Jones cited a recent interview that White House spokesman Admiral John Kirby had with Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum, in which he revealed that the White House was dealing with Qatar as a proxy in negotiating the hostage release.
“I know it’s a little bit different because you’re a journalist,” Jones asked Yingst. “So, how difficult is it to make that contact with Hamas? Because all the American people are wondering, where are the Americans being released?”
“When we talk with Hamas officials, they become increasingly frustrated throughout the war as I continue to question them over the phone and over text messages about what they did on October 7th,” Yingst replied. “They have gone as far as to blatantly lie when presented with evidence because they simply don’t want to tell the truth about what took place here, and so we’re able to make contact and get comment from them about this ongoing conflict.”
“But in terms of the information they’re providing, we often will not actually bring to air what they are telling us because I can’t confirm it,” he added. “And a lot of times, they’re lying. And so we do reach out. We try to do our due diligence on these stories and get as many perspectives and angles as possible. But when you’re dealing with a terror organization, it’s very challenging to get them to tell the truth and to provide accurate information.”
