‘Reeks of Fear and Desperation’: Trump Raises Eyebrows By Saying He Will Be ‘Great’ For ‘Reproductive Rights’

Former President Donald Trump raised eyebrows on Friday with a post on his Truth Social platform promising to be “great” for “reproductive rights.”
Around noon, Trump simply posted, “My Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights.” With abortion a top issue heading into November and major feature of the Democratic National Convention this week, Trump apparently felt the need to weigh in, but his message surprised most everyone given his pro-life posturing and role in helping overturn Roe v Wade.
“Donald Trump campaigns on…. Abortion rights,” wrote CNN’s Edward-Isaac Dovere while sharing Trump’s post. Independent journalist Matthew Yglesias replied by writing, “Big if true.” He added, “If conservatives thought like leftists, social conservatives would react to this tweet by ceasing all criticism of Democrats to focus exclusively on heckling Trump at his rallies to demand he start stating more explicitly all the ways he’ll act to ban abortion.”
Conservative pundit Bill Kristol quipped, “It’s not a bad idea to, as the Marxists say, “heighten the contradictions” on the other side. If someone were to set up a group, Pro-Abortionists for Trump, and target digital ads trumpeting Trump’s support for abortion to pro-life Trump voters…mightn’t that be kind of useful?”
Hard-right writer and activist, Pedro Gonzalez, commented, “Republicans are wary of abortion as an issue this year. That’s understandable. But this from Trump just reeks of fear and desperation. It’ll do little to convince critics and probably alienate allies.”

Donald Trump is now using Democrat lingo, and promising his “Administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights.” Literally, there’s now no difference between D’s & R’s regarding abortion. Never thought I’d hear those words “reproductive rights” written… https://t.co/y0TOjD4V7I

If you are a single-issue Trump supporter because you’re anti-abortion, what do you do now? pic.twitter.com/914uclaHSA
