Users online slammed critics for mocking Tim Walz’s teenage son for crying during his dad’s DNC convention speech on Wednesday night.
Gus Walz could be seen last night with tears streaming down his face as his father gave his DNC speech to a packed crowd of thousands in Chicago. The 17-year-old proudly proclaimed, “That’s my dad!” — an emotional moment that went viral on social media.
After the speech had concluded, Gus greeted his father on stage with a tight bear hug and buried his face in his dad’s shoulder.
However, some critics took the opportunity to mock Walz for his emotional reaction including conservative firebrand Ann Coulter, who wrote in a now deleted post on X, “Talk about weird.” Meanwhile, Trump delegate Mike Crispi wrote, “Tim Walz stupid crying son isn’t the flex the left thinks it is. You raised your kid to be a puffy beta male. Congrats.”
Users from across the political aisle went on the attack against the critics for mocking an emotional teenager.
“What kind of monster are u to attack a 17 year-old, special needs kid for expressing love for his dad,” wrote Ana Navarro. “Gus Walz is neurodivergent, has ADHD, anxiety, and a nonverbal learning disorder. Teens like Gus can have trouble regulating their emotions in social settings. Leave him the fuck alone, you ghouls.”

The people attacking or making fun of 17-year-old Gus Walz just don’t understand what JOY and LOVE are all about. They wish they had someone who cared as much about them as Gus does his dad.

Gus Walz’s reaction last night doesn’t need justification. It doesn’t matter if he’s neurodivergent.
Men can cry. Men can show emotion.
His reaction to his father’s speech was absolutely beautiful. 💙 pic.twitter.com/fkR6Cj74oP

I am appalled at the ridicule directed at Gus Walz, especially by those calling themselves Christians.
Have people been so co-opted by toxic masculinity and partisan politics that they can’t even watch a young man shed tears of love and embrace his father without mocking him? pic.twitter.com/Q2tmGl5h35
