Former President Donald Trump said he’d “absolutely” be up for adding Elon Musk to his cabinet though he believes Musk will serve more as a consultant.
Trump joined Shawn Ryan on The Shawn Ryan Show and during a discussion about AI, Ryan brought up that Musk has expressed a willingness to being involved in Trump’s potential second administration.
“Elon and I have a great relationship. He’s great. He is a totally unusual character,” Trump said.
The former president said Musk wants to be involved in “cutting some of the fat” in government spending and he called the Twitter owner one of the few “geniuses.”
“What he really would like to do is get involved in cutting some of the fat and he does know how to do it and he loves the country,” he said.
Trump added that Musk could be involved in AI, though he said Musk is likely too busy with his companies to take a cabinet position and instead would likely
“He wants to be involved. Now, look, he’s running big businesses and all that so I don’t think he’d really be for cabinet,” he said. “I’d put him in the cabinet, absolutely, but I don’t know how he could do that with all of the things he’s got going. But he can sort of, as the expression goes, consult with the country and give you some very good ideas.”
Musk has endorsed Trump for president and backed a Super PAC supporting him. Earlier this month, Musk told podcaster Lex Fridman that he and Trump have discussed a “government efficiency commission.”
“I have discussed with Trump the idea of a government efficiency commission. And I would be willing to be part of that commission,” he said.
