Harris Campaign Co-Chair Roasts Trump Over Debate Mic Dispute: His ‘Own Team’ Wants to ‘Shut Him Up’

Harris campaign co-chairman Mitch Landrieu roasted former President Donald Trump over the ongoing squabble about whether mics should be muted or live during the upcoming ABC presidential debate, musing that Trump’s “own team” wants to “shut him up.”

The Harris campaign stated its preference for live mics during the debate on September 10, as has been the norm in past presidential debates with the exception of CNN’s debate in June. However, the former president and his own campaign advisors are pushing for the same rules agreed upon for the CNN debate, when President Joe Biden was still the Democratic candidate. Those rules included muting microphones to prevent interruptions—a stipulation that some within the Trump camp now find necessary.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday, asked about the mic issue and what had been agreed for the debate rules by host Jonathan Lemire, Landrieu remarked that Trump’s team were afraid because he was “uncontrollable” and “unhinged.”

You know, I find it so interesting that what we’re fighting about is the fact that his own team wants to shut him up. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that before in the debates and the rules of the debates.

Look, if the microphones stay on people are going to hear what he says, if they stay off he’s going to yell and scream anyway. He is an uncontrollable guy, he is unhinged. I heard that he just went on TV with Dr. Phil and claimed that he won the California election, although he lost by 5 million votes. This is a delusional guy and rather than talking about the microphones, we ought to continue to talk about the fact that Donald Trump evidently does not see reality and that’s really kind of a critical part because some people want to give him the power of the presidency so that he can use it in a way that’s going to hurt the American people and we’re not going to let that happen.

Watch above on MSNBC.
