‘I Still Don’t Know What the Hell That Is’: Jim Acosta Spars with Scott Jennings Over Trump’s Shark Rant vs. Biden’s Cannibal Tale
CNN host Jim Acosta and CNN commentator Scott Jennings sparred over the respective cognitive capacities of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
While guest-hosting Friday’s edition of The Source, Acosta pointed to a CNBC report saying that business leaders were struck by Trump’s “meandering” dialogue during a recent meeting with the former president.
“I spoke to a number of CEOs who I would say walked into the meeting being Trump supporter-ish, or thinking that they might be leaning that direction, who said that he was remarkably meandering, could not keep a straight thought, was all over the map,” Andrew Ross Sorkin said of the meeting, which included some 80 CEOs, including Tim Cook of Apple and Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase.
Acosta played the clip of Sorkin and then brought up Trump’s recent remarks about the supposed risks of electrocution and shark attacks when traveling in battery-powered boats. The host also noted Trump has praised the fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter.
Jennings replied by saying he believes the aforementioned CEOs would rather have Republicans in power because their policies are better for their business.
“Look, if you’re worried about incoherence, I mean look, Joe Biden has claimed his uncle was eaten by cannibals,” Jennings said. “He has claimed he was arrested with Nelson Mandela. He has claimed all kinds of crazy things that make no sense whatsoever. And so I hear people unspooling this about Donald Trump, it’s just– do you not know who he’s running against? This attack on him for this is not going to work and it’s because of Joe Biden constantly, every day–”
“Biden gets a lot of coverage for it in particular on a certain network,” Acosta interjected, referring to Fox News. “But Scott, you know, Trump talking about sharks – and do you stay in the boat? Or do you get eaten by the shark? Or do you get electric? I still– I’ve watched that one clip I think like 100 times in the last week. I still don’t know what the hell that is.”
“I don’t know,” Jennings responded. “We’ll have to decide if we want to be eaten by sharks or by cannibals.”
