WATCH: Israeli Ambassador Shreds UN Charter To Protest Vote Giving New Privileges to Palestinians
Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations produced a small paper shredder during a speech Friday to protest a general assembly resolution supporting Palestinian membership.
Toward the end of his speech, Gilad Erdan announced, “Today I will hold up a mirror for you. This is your mirror, so that you can see exactly what you are inflicting upon the U.N. Charter with this destructive vote.”
Erdan held up the shredder, then proceeded to feed through a tiny version of the charter, saying, “You are shredding the charter with your own hands,” adding, “Shame on you!”

The measure passed 143-9, with both Israel and the United States voting against it. “While a General Assembly vote cannot confer UN membership, the approved resolution does endow the Palestinian Authority with new procedural rights and privileges,” CNN reported.
Erdan posted later on X about “the despicable decision to give rights of a state to the terror supporting Palestinian Authority. I shredded the ‘UN Charter’ to illustrate what the General Assembly is doing by subverting the Security Council and supporting the entry of a terror entity.”
In a separate post, he accused the general assembly of advancing “a Nazi regime into the UN’s ranks.”
Before Erdan’s demonstration, Palestinian ambassador Riyad Mansour spoke about the plight of Palestinians sheltering in Rafah, and thanked protesters who have been occupying U.S. college campuses.
“Our flag flies high and proud in Palestine and across the globe, and on the campus of Columbia University. It has become a symbol by all those who believe in freedom and is just ruled by all those who can no longer stand idly by in the face of such utter injustice,” Mansour said.
