Mike Johnson Extends the Olive Branch to MTG After Her Motion to Vacate Crashes and Burns: ‘I Don’t Hold Grudges’
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) tried to mend his relationship with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) following the failure of her bid to oust him from leadership.
On Wednesday, the House voted to block an attempt by Greene to oust Johnson from the speakership. The bipartisan vote ended with 359 nays, 43 abstentions, and 7 yeas — with over 163 Democrats voting to keep Johnson as speaker.
Republican lawmakers slammed Greene’s motion as a distraction, while Democrats claimed it would create chaos in Congress. Last year, the House went weeks without a speaker following the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R- CA).
During an interview on Fox and Friends Thursday morning, co-host Brian Kilmeade asked the speaker if believes Greene is a “serious legislator” following the failure of the vote. Johnson claimed that he let Greene know he does not hold grudges and wants to “move on.”
KILMEADE: With Marjorie Taylor Greene doing, do you look at the nonsense after 2.5 hours? Do you think she’s a serious legislator?
JOHNSON: Look, I’m going to let other people judge Marjorie. I’ve got to work with all my colleagues.
STEEVE DOOCY: What a politician!
JOHNSON: I’m not a politician. I’m trying to approach this as a Christian…I don’t hold grudges. I got to work with everybody. And I told her last night before we left the floor. Let’s move on, Marjorie. I’m okay with this. Let’s move on.
DOOCY: And what did she say?
JOHNSON: I think we’ll have an opportunity to do that, we’ll see.
