Tim Walz Praised Radical Imam Who Promoted Pro-Hitler Film as ‘Master Teacher’ Despite Insisting They Have No ‘Personal Relationship’
Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz insists that he has “no personal relationship” with a radical imam who promoted a pro-Hitler film, but he once called him a “master teacher” while enumerating what he taught Walz.
Walz’s meetings with Asad Zaman, executive director of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, have been scrutinized in recent days because of Zaman’s support for Hamas and anti-Semitic beliefs, as exhibited by his sharing of the terrorist group’s press releases and a link to the website for Adolf Hitler: The Greatest Story Never Told, a neo-Nazi propaganda film.
On the day of Hamas’ attack on Israel last October 7, Zaman ignored the murder, rape, and kidnapping of innocent Israelis, instead declaring that his organization stood “in solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli attacks.”
After Walz’s various interactions with Zaman — which included one instance in which he gave an invocation before Walz’s 2019 state of the state address — were reported on last week, a spokesman for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign insisted that “The Governor and he [Zaman] do not have a personal relationship. Governor Walz strongly condemns Hamas terrorism.”
But a new video surfaced by The Washington Examiner raises questions over the truth of that first sentence.
On the campaign trail back in 2018, Walz attended an event hosted by the Muslim American Society and showered Zaman with praise.

“I would like to first of all say thank you to imam,” began Walz. “I am a teacher, so when I see a master teacher, I know it. And over the time we’ve spent together, one of the things I’ve had the privilege of is seeing the things in life through the eye of a master teacher, to try and get the understanding,” before going on to explain what Zaman had taught him in their meetings together.
A spokesman for the Anti-Defamation League told the Examiner that “Imam Zaman has a troubling history of playing into classic anti-Jewish themes and justifying violence against Israel” and has “justified violence against Israel, including from terror groups.”
