Pod Save America’s Jon Favreau and Jesse Watters Bro Out In Shockingly Friendly DNC Interview
According to Mayan prophecy, at some point, planets will align, and the human race will enter a changing calendar, which will enable us to experience peace and environmental harmony like never before.
Well, I have some really good news to share with you, dear reader. Judging by the remarkably convivial conversation between Pod Save America’s Jon Favreau and Fox News host Jesse Watters, the “Harmonic Convergence” appears to have started Thursday night at the United Center, which hosted the DNC.
Favreau is a hero to progressive Democrats who sorely miss the leadership of former President Barack Obama, for whom he served as speech writer. Watters is the Jersey shore frat bro trope who delights in trolling the left, but he does so with a wink and a nod that aims to reveal he is in on his joke (though sometimes he fails).
Both of these political media personalities deserve credit for agreeing to sit with one another. Surprisingly, the segment was remarkably entertaining for reasons beyond the typical cable news fodder featured on this site. Alas, no GOING OFF, CLASHING, or BONKERS conspiracies were floated. Though if there were, be certain those words would have appeared on a super-clicky headline, as is our wont.
If you didn’t know the backgrounds of these two ideological foes, you would think they were old high school pals reunited at a Bro Convention (which is not something that actually exists, but the concept serves my purpose here).
Yes, there was some good-spirited debate about Vice President Kamala Harris and whether she is a moderate or a moderate Democrat, but the entire back-and-forth was mutually respectful, funny, and, shockingly, served both participants very well in the eyes of a neutral viewer who came away liking each of them better for having participated.
Why is this worth comment? Well anyone who has parented a toddler (or trained a dog) knows that rewarding desired behavior is a way more effective approach to reach a desired outcome. And in our current world of bitterly divided partisan politics, divisive rhetoric, and false claims of AI-generated photos that erode the ephemeral nature of meaning itself? This segment was like coming into an oasis of goodwill after trodding through a desert of ill-informed enmity for a decade.
So Jon Favreau and Jesse Watters? Good on you two. Let’s all aim to do more of this stuff, please!
Now, let’s go out there and show them who we are!
