‘Loud Mouth Moron!’ MLB Fans Torch Stephen. A Smith for Completely Whiffing on Take About Aaron Judge
Stephen A. Smith once again drew the ire of sports fans when he confidently delivered a take Wednesday that turned out to be completely wrong.
On Wednesday’s episode of First Take, host Molly Qerim asked Smith and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo about New York Yankees star Aaron Judge and LA Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani. Both are the favorites to win the MVP awards in their respective leagues, so Smith and Russo debated which one was having the more “impressive” season.
Though Smith is a Yankees fan, he argued that Ohtani’s season was better. One of the knocks on Judge, he said, was the fact that he has outfielder Juan Soto right behind him in the lineup — meaning team’s can’t just pitch around him.
“And then we wanna give Aaron Judge credit — and he deserves it — because a .465 on-base percentage is lethal. It’s phenomenal, no doubt about it,” Smith said, “but you do got Juan Soto batting up behind you. They can’t get around you. They gotta pitch to the brother because you got Soto waiting in the wings!”
The only problem is that Soto hits before Judge in the lineup. For virtually the entire season, Soto has batted second and Judge third.
MLB fans on social media were not amused by the error.

These guys get paid millions to talk about sports and don’t know a damn thing. No wonder ESPN is a dying company https://t.co/U5lyVQbYby

This statement just proves that SAS hasn’t watched a split-second of baseball this season
But no one will call him out on it or show him up because “he’s Stephen A, the most important man on National television” https://t.co/b2qgqxNE3N

It’s far from the first time Smith has been called out for seemingly not paying attention to his favorite teams. In April, he praised a New York Knicks player for their recent performances with the team. That player had been traded months prior.
