Sunday’s women’s soccer match between Rutgers University and the University of Massachusetts briefly descended into chaos when two players started fighting.

In the 55th minute of the second half, Rutgers forward Gia Girman was called for a foul on an attempted tackle. While Girman was on the ground, UMass forward Ashley Lamond tried to pick up the ball from underneath her to put it back in play. Girman seemingly took exception to the move and the two players stood face-to-face when she got up. Suddenly, Girman threw a punch and two took their scuffle to the ground. Teammates from both sides ran over to break it up.

Girman and Lamond were both given red cards and ejected, leaving their teams to finish the match with 10 players on each side.

According to a report from WCVB Boston, a Rutgers spokesperson said the university was aware of the altercation. No further comment was given.
