‘No We Didn’t!’ Brianna Keilar And Former Trump Comms Director Argue Over If CNN Labeled Harris The ‘Border Czar’

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar and former Trump communications director Mike Dubke argued over whether the network ever labeled Kamala Harris the “border czar.”

Since announcing she was running for office, former President Donald Trump and other Republicans have tried to criticize Harris by claiming she was the Biden administration’s “border czar” and oversaw the surge in undocumented migrants.

Harris was never appointed as the administration’s “border czar” as the position does not officially exist. Back in March 2021, Joe Biden tasked Harris with overseeing diplomatic efforts in Central America.

During a discussion over Harris’ upcoming interview with Dana Bash, Dubke claimed that CNN at one point called Harris the “border czar.”

DUBKE: I know there’s this whole nomenclature over border czar. But that was the language that was used at the time. We have an immigration problem. We need to discuss that. So hopefully — I’m hoping that, that it turns into a conversation where Dana is asking the vice president why she made some of these flips and flops.

KEILAR: Her purview, just to be clear, was looking at the drivers of immigration.

DUBKE: I really don’t want to argue about this — At the time it was reported, and I’m going to be clear — at the time it was reported, even CNN called her a border czar — we can argue about that —

KEILAR: No, we didn’t.

DUBKE: I think we can go back and double check it —

KEILAR: Alright, we’ll go back and double check it.

DUBKE: — and if I’m wrong I will eat my words on that.
