Former President Donald Trump made his return to Washington, DC, on Thursday to meet with Republican lawmakers — and air his grievances about pop superstar Taylor Swift.

According to reporters on Capitol Hill who spoke to those who attended the meeting, most of Trump’s agenda was about how he would exact revenge on his critics — including some who were in the same room — various complaints about his legal issues, and why he can’t get Swift to endorse him.

CNN’s Melanie Zanona posted on Twitter/X that Trump reportedly said, referring to President Joe Biden, “Why would she endorse this dope? He doesn’t know how to get off a stage.” The Hill’s Emily Brooks also reported that Trump touted “a bill to help songwriters” that he signed as another reason why he thought Swift should support him over Biden.

Trump was referring to the Music Modernization Act, which he signed into law in 2018 while he was president. He explained on Truth Social in February: “There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.”

Swift has apparently been a weighty subject for Trump for a while. A book excerpt published on Variety on Monday described the ex-president’s opinions on her looks and talent, as well as her political leanings:

I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!

He also commented that her left-leaning politics must be an “act”:

She is liberal, or is that just an act? She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.

During the same meeting, he also claimed that “if things were different,” he and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) would have made a great couple.
